What a wonderful year it has been

Well I have been slacking on my blog so I figure now is a perfect time to catch everyone up!

We recently have cerebrated Corbin's first birthday  which was huge for us. I just can't believe how fast the year went. He is well on his way to being a big boy. He is walking (running), has 8 teeth, says a handful of works and keeps me busy everyday!

Christmas is fast approaching and we just can't wait. This time last year my hubby was at boot camp and the holiday just didn't seem right without him. This year, while the baby is not old enough to understand 'Santa' it is exciting to start our family traditions. We are looking forward to the holiday also because we will get to travel back home to PA to visit with family and friends and hopefully introduce Corbin to snow!

I will end this post with some pictures and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

See everyone next year!

Picture time!

Well this past Saturday we had a family photo shoot. There is some back story here so let me explain. When we first moved to NC I was out walking in our new neighborhood and was approached by a women who at first I thought was crazy (sorry) but soon I found out she was such a sweet women. She saw me walking with Corbin and just fell in love with him. She is a local photographer here and she wanted to know if she could take some pictures of the baby and my husband and I so she could build her portfolio and add some pictures to her website and I was more than happy to help her. SO.. this past Saturday we had our second shoot with her and it was GREAT! The first shoot we had was when the baby was just 3 months old and he is now 11 months old so it was a very different set up. Since he is walking now we were able to just let him run around and she snapped away. She sent me a sneak peek of them and they are gorgeous and I just cannot wait to see the rest. Please feel free to visit her website and allow her to put a smile on your face like she as for our family! So i will leave you with the sneak peek she left me until I get the rest! Enjoy

Just another day at the beach

Over  this past weekend I was coming back from the city after doing some shopping and as the lil man and I neared our house I could see that there was going to be an amazing sunset, so I detoured and made a mad dash for the beach because I knew I didn't have much time before the sun would actually set. As I crossed the bridge to the island I made a desperate attempt to snap a picture of the ball of fire in the sky as it cast this beautiful red hue on the Inter-coastal water way and I forgot to roll the window down so my plan was foiled . As we made it to the beach I did my best to kick my shoes and socks off as fast as I could, cause heavens knows I didn't want sand in my shoes, I grabbed the camera and the baby of course and started running down the walkway to the beach. Sadly as I got closer I could see a man with his fancy camera and big honkin lens snapping away and as my feet slapped the wood and poor Corbins head bounced around the man turned around and informed me that "I just missed it!" I was bummed to say the least. Maybe if I would have kept my shoes on I would have made it, oh well can't turn back time I guess. So rather than it being a wasted trip I decided to snap a few shots of the still brightly colored sky and go dip our toes in the water, since we hadn't done that in gosh...2 months maybe. Well to my surprise the water WAS FREEZING! I did not think it was going to be that cold already but boy was I wrong. Now normally I take my ques from Corbin and he will let me know if the water is too cold but I am not sure if it was simply because he is more aware of his surroundings now and was in awe of the 'big blue' or if he thought his mama just took him to the biggest bath tub ever but he was loving it. It was all I could do to hang on to his little fingers and make sure my camera didn't take a swim, and still let him splash around for a moment.

Well I decided that the next day, Sunday, I would be sure to take him back, this time when the sun was out, hopefully warming things up a bit. So I did just that, the next day I got up and packed us a mini bag of a towel, a beverage for him, and my camera of course. Now I had zero intentions of getting in the water so I dressed in some sweats and a T and I also had no intentions of letting Corbin do anything but kick his feet and maybe splash his hands in as the waves washed in but something inside of me said to throw a swimmy on him just in case cause heavens knows dealing with a water logged diaper is no fun, so I did. Swimmy onsie and old shorts and we were off!

Now that tourist season is over it is easier to enjoy the beach and not worry about being in someones way or anyone looking at you like you are crazy as you try and keep the sand off of you (I know I need to deal with this sand issue I have). Any who, there were a few people there mostly older folks enjoying the sun and watching the fishing boats. So as I hunted a good spot on the beach Corbin started to squawk (I cant help it he sounds like a bird when he gets going) at me and point at the water so I knew he was excited already. So I put our bag down and I put him down and I nicely said for him to stay by mama, and I went on to put my camera down and get the towel out. Well I no sooner put the camera down when I think this child turned into a sprinter! He made a mad dash for that water like it was his job and I felt like the crazy lady trying to catch a piece of paper in a wind storm. Every time I got close enough to grab him he picked up the pace, I am sure for the few people on the beach seeing this it had to be very comical. I did end up snatching him up mere seconds before the waves washed up and soaked him with water. After all of that I put him back down and told him to hold my hand and we started to walk... it was going well, he was splashing I was enjoying my 'mama moment' seeing him explore this new adventure, even though he had been to the beach so many times before this, but he was just thrilled that the water was there and the sand and just so much stimulation for one little boy. Well I decided to take him out a tiny bit further and as I was paying attention to him and not so much to the waves... yep, you know.... we got real wet. The sweat pants I had pulled up to my knees, were now wet up to my thighs, and well lets just say I am glad he had a swimmy on! While it wasn't something I was thrilled about, Corbin on the other hand loved it, it was like I had just turned on a giant faucet for him to play with. He squirmed around until I let him sit in the sand and just be washed over with water. It splashed his face and he would squinch up his eyes and giggle as he licked his now salty lips and then it happened..... he put his hands down and discovered the sand. Now up until this point every beach trip we have made I have been able to keep him from the wonderful experience of eating sand but this time it was out of my control. He smashed it between his fingers to investigate and then went in for the kill, a nice mouth full. Ugh I got chills just watching his little baby teeth chew it up and the face he made was priceless, he was not fond of it at all. I helped him wash it out, with the salt water of course, as much as I could and he went on splashing. It was hilarious watching him try to crawl in the water and on the sand. Every time he would try and stand up to walk the water would push him around and crawling the sand was too rough on his legs but he sure was all over the place. I let this go on for a good 20 minutes before I had to call it quits. While he wasn't showing any signs of being cold I knew at any moment he was going to shudder and look at me like AHHH I'm cold. So as he kicked and screamed all the way back to the towel he was rather content once I did wrap him up. We sat on the beach for a while watching the pelicans and fishing boats just in silence, as if he were enjoying it as much as I was and oh was I ever. Sitting on the beach with my lil man all suggled up in my lap, what more could I ask for. After a little while he looked up at me as if to say he was hungry so I got his bottle and figured that was as good a time as any to try and get some good pictures and boy was I right. I mean I managed to snap some while he was playing in the water but those kinds of pictures get so risky, trying to keep the camera dry and make sure the kid doesn't wash out to sea, too stressful for me haha. I did manage to get some great shots of him as you will see below. After that we headed back home where he immediately went into the bath to remove all 12 pounds of sand that was stuck in his onsie and swimmy and all of that salt so he would stop licking his hands and feet, goof-ball. All in all it turned out to be a great day and I was so happy we took the trip back to the beach. It gave me something to look forward to for next summer when he will be so much older and much more fun at the beach!

Pittsburgh in the Fall

Well after a long day of not knowing what the heck was going on we finally decided to make the trip back to Pittsburgh for a long weekend. The husband was granted a few extra days of leave so we decided to take advantage of that. While we were not really thrilled with driving 11+ hours through the night we did it and let me just say I am still not a fan of that darn DC beltway.

We left NC and it was in the 70s to get to Pittsburgh and be welcomed with 40/50 degree weather and crazy wind, but hey thats western PA for ya right?! It was great to be back and I love seeing my family but I swear each trip back feels more and more rushed. We go back for an escape from daily life and to relax with loved ones and our time gets spent driving all over creation to visit and by the end of it all I am more tired than when we started. This trip was different though from the one taken at the beginning of the summer because the husband got to come and it was his first time back in 8 months so it was exciting for him.

We also had an opportunity to go out with out the baby while we were there which was a first for us since we have not been out on a 'date' since the baby was born. My brother-in-law took us to the casino and well lets say I was not impressed. I quickly remembered how much I dislike cigarette smoke and after gambling away $40 bucks I realized that was not the place for me and we jokes about how we just lost out diaper money for the next month. After the casino we came up with another brilliant idea, lets go get a drink! Off to the South Side we went. Carson St. was littered with tons of annoying drunk people as always and as we walked down the street people watching I realized how much I did not want a drink, how cold I was, and how much I missed my lil man man, and then there it was, the reason we came to the SS, The Grotto pizza! Yes you read that right, we went to the best place in town to drink and dance and we ended up sitting in a pizzeria. My brother-in-law couldnt hand lol so he went off on his own back down the street while the husband and I sat and enjoyed the delicious backed goodness that we cannot get in NC. As we people watched out the window I looked at the husband and said that I was getting old. As much as I miss from time to time the ability to go out and get so drunk my face feels like its going to fall off and dance till my feet ache it just wasnt a part of my life anymore. My life was Corbin and my family and I would have much rather been back home cuddled up with him! So we gathered our things and headed back home where we did just that. My hubs enjoyed playing video games with his brothers and laughing with his parents as we all enjoyed playing with the baby.

Pittsburgh will always be home and I will always appreciate the things that city has to offer compared to any other place we may end up living but my real home is where my heart is, where my son is and that is what makes me happy these days. We enjoyed our trek back to NC looking at all the Fall foliage and watching the thermometer creep up from the 50s to the high 70s by the time we made it to NC, it was good to be home!

My lil punkin head

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. There is Halloween, Thanksgiving, and of course the great Fall weather! This year is better than ever though because I get to share it with my lil man and I took this great opportunity to get some great pictures with the wonderful decor around right now!

Enjoy!

My how time flys

Sorry its been so long since the last post. I need to brush up on my blogging skills. I have a million things going on and sadly my blog gets neglected. So back to those million things, its been a crazy couple of weeks. The hubs hurt his finger (right pointer to be exact) which is flippin wonderful NOT. This injury didn't occur while doing something cool like working on one of the Coast Guard boats or something, no not him. He hurt it playing soft ball! You know the worlds most dangerous sport! He caught the ball without a glove and the laces came down and hit his finger so conveniently on his finger and cut it right in the first knuckle crease! I mean who does this? An ER trip and 4 stitches later oh and an infection! He is almost back to normal (is normal even possible for him?)
So my lil man man is growing WAY to fast. He now has 4 teeth, the 2 top and 2 bottom and he knows exactly what to do with them, bite me! For a 9 month old he has some serious anger management issues, I hope he out grows those.  He is still crawling like a 3 legged dog or a crab, either or describes how he gets around to a T.  I am sure it will be just a matter of time before he is walking, I mean running through the house for me to chase after him. He has also developed an interest in the TV so I try and have Nick Jr on when he is awake. His favorite show right now seems to be Yo Gaba Gaba which is um a rather strange show to say the least. if you have ever watched this show I think you will agree with me. It looks like he might learn a few good lessons from the show though, the one in particular that I am hoping he catches on to is the 'Don't bite your friends, don't bite your friends' song. He is just a wild man and I am loving every minute of it.

Lastly, school! Oh how I loath you! I am so ready for these last few classes to be over with so something else can come in and consume my life! Just 4 more classes to go and then I am free, free to do what who knows but I will be free! If only I would have known 3 years ago that I would be where I am now maybe I could have picked a different degree. I am not so sure how a degree in business and HR will work for me but we shall see.

Now I will leave you with a few snap shots to hopefully brighten your day!
Guess he thought this was the best seat in the house
How he has decided to transport his toys
Look out kids he is on the move
Is this a sign that I could have a golfer on my hands in the future?
 Such a silly boy

So here are some pictures that I have taken to get me motivated to keep clicking away...

Pelican I snapped in Clearwater FL a few years ago
This is a shot I got while driving to the beach in Clearwater
The sweet sight of a palm tree
A couple sea gulls hanging out
Just a walk on the beach
Pier in Oak Island, NC
Loved these birds, they have mohawks
Pier shot I thought was neat
Sunset
Some neat trees going to Carolina Beach

Picture this picture that

So on top of the many things that I have going on in my life, I feel as though I need a hobby. One might say I am crazy since I already do so much with the baby, the hubs, and school but I need something else, something that is just me so I am deciding to learn more about my camera and start taking pictures and hopefully come up with some worthy ones and maybe try and make a profit from them if they are good enough, we shall see how this goes and if I can follow through with it, wish me luck!

Home again....

Well the trip to Pittsburgh was nice, we are now back safe and sound in NC my 'home'. I have realized that even though I was born and raised in Pittsburgh now that I am married and have my own family I realized that NC is now my new home because is where my heart is.  I missed my husband dearly and it was so sad for me to see my son learning to do things and making milestones without my dear hubs being there to see them too so for now, I am done traveling without him.

As for my lil man, well he is CRAZY to say the least. Growing with leaps and bounds and I am loving every minute of it. Until next time....

Pittsburgh

Its been a few days but I figured I would catch up on here while I have a moment. So for the next 3 weeks my lil man man and I will be visiting our home land, Pittsburgh! This is the first time we have been back since we moved and I am rather excited for my little one to experience Pittsburgh and all it has to offer (to a 7 month old). So far we have been running around like crazy visiting friends and family and we have not even been here for a full week yet.

I am particularly excited about this Sunday though. I am headed downtown to take some pictures and capture some memories with my little one for a project that I have been working on so we will see how it goes. It is good to be 'home' but I am missing my sunshine and beach and anxious to get back to it.

Well until next time, and hopefully some wonderful pictures!

Fun in the sun

Nothing I love more than seeing that smile

Going to give this a second shot

Well I tried this blog thing once before and this time around I am hoping it goes better. I am planning to use this as a place to post my thoughts, ideas, and pictures. A way for me to express myself and share things with others. I hope you enjoy!
